General Information

Kaleswood is an emerald land of rolling grasslands, capped on the north and west by deep, rugged woodlands, known as the Shadow Wood. To the south this verdant land is bordered by the Induin Forest, and on the east the grasslands slope into the Swifthoof Steppes.

Notable Locations

Kaleswood is home to several notable locations, though some of the remote spots are not for the unseasoned adventurer.

Towns

  • Brensfeld - A large farming and ranching community, where many of the horses used in the Kaleswood military are bred and raised.
  • Castle Blackmane - A strong-built castle sits in the center of a walled town that sprawls across the open field at the edge of the woods. Castle Blackmane is the largest settlement in Kaleswood, and the capital of the kingdom. The great stables in this town are a sight to behold, and it boasts the finest steeds in Everwind Country.
  • Eirenton - A small village of farmers and herdsmen that has a few inns for those travelling along the road.
  • Jacqueston - A small town built on the edge of the Induin Forest, boasting very little in the way of lodging.
  • Jiavrin's Crossing - The largest town in Kaleswood, apart from the capital. It is a large hub of travel and trade that sides on the crossing of the Kales River and the Greater Plains Highway.
  • Summercrest - One of three Halfling townships that exists in Everwind Country. It is built on the shores of White Lake and is known for its animal products.

Forts

  • Fort Besdoc - A heavily garrisoned fortress, that helps to protect the Kales River as it enters the land from the Shadow Wood. Provides a united front with the Induin wood elves.
  • Fort Lagher - A fortified training facility for mounted soldiers. It is the premier barracks of Kaleswood's mounted forces.
  • Fort Sorriv - The heavily garrisoned entry point into Kaleswood. This fortress oversees the road and river entering the land from the southeast, and is used as a checkpoint for travelers.
  • Fort Sterling - This fortress is a lightly garrisoned forward post, watching the eastern section of the north border, on the eastern shore of the Whitewood River.

Dungeons

  • Batwood Hovel - A deep cave that is said to hold artifacts of great value, but strange occurrences and rumors of strange monsters keeps most adventurers at bay.
  • The Dark Mire - A dense slough, that is said to be home to vicious kobolds. Largely unexplored and unmapped.
  • Ekres Barrow - A heavily forested rocky outcropping, that some say serves as a lair to a pack of gnolls. Sightings have occurred in this area, but nothing conclusive.

Landmarks

  • Induin Grove - This forest clearing was where the first major contact between the Kaleswood humans and the Induin wood elves took place. Today it is considered a notable landmark.
  • The Northwood - A sparse grove that extends into Kaleswood from the Shadow Wood in the north. Some have said this place is cursed, or haunted, and there are plenty of strange stories revolving around it to indicate such things.
  • Point Westwood - A small encampment on the edge of the Shadow Wood. It is often called the Shadow Gate, though no physical barrier actually exists here. It is rumored that monsters have been killed or captured around this location, but nothing has been confirmed.
  • White Lake - This shallow lake is essentially a valley that was filled when the Whitewood River's path was permanently changed.
