Magic
General Info
Magic is a powerful force that exists in the world of Mithnir. It occurs naturally through certain beings or artifacts, or even certain phenomena, but it also occurs more artificially through manipulation by mortals. It takes years of training for a mortal being to learn to harness magic.
There are eight magical forces that exist. Three are the Primal Forces, and four are the Elemental Forces, while the last is just considered to be Life Force. Often times those who are skilled in the use of magic will have control limited to only one or two of these magical forces, choosing to focus on proficiency in one, rather than dabbling in all.
Life Force
The magic force of Life is not what you might think. It is not the force responsible for the existence of life, but does indeed have an impact on it. Life magic allows for one to manipulate or synthesize life. With this magic it is possible to breathe life into inanimate objects, heal wounds, or in the most extreme cases, revive a recently deceased individual.
The Primal Forces
The primal forces of magic are Time, Dark, and Light. Each of these is considered essential to the very fabric of the universe, and it is said none can exist without the other two.
Time
The magic force of Time is complex and hardly understood by mortals. It is described many ways, which often seem contradictory. It is described as "the vessel on which events, future and past, travel... the page on which history itself is written, and rewritten." Time magic controls not only the passage of time, but the speed and direction of time. One could speed or slow time temporarily with this magic, and some rumor that the most powerful wielders of this magic can even freeze time.
Light / Order
The magic force of Light is inclusive of order, purity and creation. It is a force of balance, of pure magical energy, and the preservation of these things. One can bend this force of magic by their will, using it to increase or alter perception. Some suspect that the most powerful users of this magic would be able to manifest entirely new objects by their sheer will alone. This force governs things such as fate and destiny, and some say those can be changed by masters of this school.
Dark / Chaos
The forces of chaos, deceit and corruption lie within the bounds of the Dark magic force. The things we know as chance and change are bound up in this magical force. It is said that with this magic, one could bend chance or luck in his favor, or even further still, obscure himself from sight. Still others claim that this school can deceive others, leading them to conclusions or perceptions far from the truth. This power with its chaotic nature is prone to corrupting its users. Its raw, primal power is both held in check by the other two primal forces, and keeps them in check as well.
The Elemental Forces
There are four elemental forces of magic: Fire, Earth, Water and Air. These forces control or govern their appropriate aspect of the universe, such as the fire, earth, water and air that make up the world.
Fire
The magical force of Fire is the control and manipulation over the heat of the elements. Those who wield this magic are able to ignite objects, burn their enemies with projectiles or blasts of intense heat, and control pre-existing sources of flame.
Earth
The stones and dust of the ground fall under the jurisdiction of the magical force of Earth. With this magic, one could manipulate stones to take on new shape, or to move about at the users will. Likewise, control over the softer elements of earth is possible, bending trees and vines to ones will as well.
Water
The magical force of Water controls all things water related, including ice. With this school of magic it would be possible to conjure water at will, or manipulate that which exists already, freezing or shaping it, or simply moving it as one desires.
Air
The magical force of Air governs all things atmospheric. The wind and clouds respond to this force, as well as the forces of lightning. With this magic, one could conjure a powerful gust of wind, or summon a storm over an area.
